Boil Water Notice

Boil Water Notice: A Boil Water Notice is issued by the public health officials when there is a concern that a disaster or other event has the potential to contaminate the water supply. When a notice is issued, bring water to a rolling boil for at least 1 minute to make sure the water is safe. If you still have electricity to your home, refrigerate the water after boiling.  If not, store it in an airtight container in a cool place (if available). Listen to local news for updates.

Disinfecting Water: If you are unable to boil water, follow these steps to disinfect water before drinking:

  1. Add 8 drops (1/8 teaspoon) of bleach to 1 gallon of water.
  2. Stir and let stand for 30 minutes. Use only household liquid bleach that contains 5.25 percent sodium hypochlorite. Do not use scented bleaches, color-safe bleaches, or bleaches with added cleaners.
